Setting Up Your Classic Grain MillUpdated a month ago

Proper setup is essential for getting the best performance from your NutriMill Classic Grain Mill. Follow these steps to ensure your mill is correctly assembled and ready to use.

1. Unboxing & Checking Components

Before starting, ensure you have all the necessary components:
NutriMill Classic Grain Mill Unit
Hopper Lid
✔ Hopper Extension Ring (Packed inside the flour bowl)
Flour Bowl (Canister) with Lid
Separator Cup
Air Filter

2. Preparing for First-Time Use

Before milling grains for the first time, it’s important to clean the milling chamber to remove any potential manufacturing residues:

  1. Remove the hopper extension ring from the flour bowl.
  2. Mill at least 2 cups of wheat or rice and discard the flour.
  3. Clean the flour bowl and separator cup to remove any remaining particles.

3. Assembling the Mill

Step 1: Attach the Separator Cup

  • Align the separator cup handle with the guide on the flour bowl lid.
  • Snap it securely into place. This prevents flour leakage and ensures proper airflow.

Step 2: Insert the Air Filter

  • Place the air filter on top of the flour bowl lid.
  • Ensure it is dry and properly positioned to maintain good air circulation.

Step 3: Secure the Flour Bowl & Lid

  • Attach the flour bowl lid by twisting it counterclockwise to lock it into place.
  • Ensure the rubber gasket on the lid is properly sealed to prevent flour from escaping.

Step 4: Lock the Hopper Extension Ring (Optional)

  • If milling larger quantities, attach the hopper extension ring for increased grain capacity.
  • Secure it by aligning the three locking tabs and pressing firmly into place.
  • For smaller batches, you may leave the hopper extension ring off.

4. Plugging in and Powering On

  • Plug the NutriMill Classic into a standard 120V outlet.
  • Keep the Grain Feed Rate Knob (lower knob) in the OFF position before adding grain.
  • Always start the motor on high speed (turn the Motor Speed Control Knob (upper knob) to the left).

5. Loading & Milling Grain

  • Fill the hopper with clean, dry grain. Do not overfill beyond ⅔ to ¾ full.
  • Replace the hopper lid for quieter operation.
  • Turn the Grain Feed Rate Knob (lower knob) to the right to start the grain flow.
  • Adjust the Motor Speed Control Knob (upper knob)for desired flour texture:
    • Left for finer flour
    • Right for coarser flour

6. Shutting Down & Cleaning

  • When milling is complete, let the mill run for 5 extra seconds to clear any remaining flour.
  • Tap the flour bowl lid a few times to settle any remaining flour.
  • Unplug the mill before removing parts for cleaning.
  • Clean the air filter by tapping out excess flour (do not wash).
  • Store the unit in a dry place for long-term use.

Final Tips for Best Performance

✔ Always use dry grains—moisture can cause clogging.
✔ Do not mill already-milled flour—this can damage the milling heads.
✔ Periodically mill 3 cups of white rice on a coarse setting to clean the milling heads.
